This splendid historic villa located in Gorle, originally a castle from the 13th century, is the result of careful restoration work carried out by the owners in collaboration with the Superintendency of the Cultural Heritage of Lombardy, which has made it possible to transform the abandoned property into a unique luxury dwelling, restoring it to its former charm and, as of today, it is classified as an Italian national monument enjoying the advantageous artistic and historical protection.
The villa consists of a 750-square-metre main house, equipped with a lift to the top of the tower, and a secondary house, located in a wing of the property, set in an old 19th-century park, expertly planted with refined essences.
On the ground floor is the entrance, accessed from the large private courtyard, a large double living room with fireplace, vaulted ceilings, overlooking the garden; study with independent entrance from the courtyard; dining room; large kitchen with fireplace, oven and dining area; service bathroom.
On the upper floor, three bedrooms each with its own private bathroom and balcony overlooking the courtyard. On the second floor, in the crenellated tower, the master suite with access to the private terrace and bathroom.
Finally, on the top floor is the altana, also accessible by lift, from which one can enjoy the surrounding panorama. The property is completed by the basement, directly connected to the 90 sqm garage, consisting of a large 50 sqm tavern, the characteristic barrel-vaulted cellars and a bathroom.
The outbuilding of approximately 100 square metres, an integral part of the castle but with independent access, is located in the side wing and consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room on the mezzanine, cellar and parking space in the garage.
High-quality furnishings and antiques, many dating back to the 1600s, can be purchased together with the residence, subject to valuation; the villa also has four fully functioning fireplaces.
The town of Gorle, lapped by the course of the river Serio, has Roman origins. The first structure of the Castle probably had the task, along with other structures, of controlling the passage and defending the Gorle Bridge (Ponte Marzio) which, at that time, was the only bridge over the river Serio connecting north-eastern Italy with Bergamo, a city that had been part of Cisalpine Gaul since the time of Julius Caesar. Reports dating back to the 13th century say that the castle was part of a residential complex used as a summer residence by the bishops of Bergamo who, over the centuries, left various traces and their coats of arms still present today on the facades of the tower.
