Read moreIn an enchanting landscape typical of the Salento, there is a small village dating back to the early 1800s. Its characteristic feature is the presence of ancient dry-stone buildings, finely restored throughout. For this reason, the place retains all the charm of yesteryear. The Antico Borgo for sale consists of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large kitchen, various pergolas and 2 wonderful internal courtyards. Entirely covered with rock flooring, polished by time and worked by man over the centuries.
The surrounding land has centuries-old olive trees, some fig trees, prickly pears, almonds, pomegranates and myrtles. Furthermore, in the centre of one of the two courtyards, there is an ancient cistern dug into the rock and dating back to the same period as the Borgo was built. In addition to the cistern, there is also a recently constructed artesian well, from which water can be drawn in quantity. The entire property has a surface area of between 10,000 and 20,000 square metres.
One can decide to buy the Antico Borgo of 200 square metres, with the appurtenant land of 5,000 square metres. Or you can add the adjacent land for a maximum of 4 hectares.
The municipality of Patù is 126 kilometres from the Salento Airport (Brindisi). The small town is located at the far end of Capo di Leuca, at the foot of the Vereto hill.
According to historians, the name Patù derives from the Greek pathos (suffering, pain). In fact, it is said to recall the suffering of the town of Vereto (Veretum), destroyed by the Saracens, from which the village grew. According to others, the name would derive from Verduro Pato, keeper of the granaries of the lords of Vereto.
Patù overlooks the Ionian Sea for about 3 km with the localities of Felloniche and Torre San Gregorio (a seaside resort with various accommodation facilities). The entire municipal territory is subject to a landscape constraint due to its natural composition characterised by Mediterranean scrub and local essences and the presence of ancient monuments of inestimable aesthetic and traditional value such as the pajare. Important is the presence of typical local flora such as the Leuca alyssum, thyme, myrtle and various species of wild orchids.
