Read moreThe castle is located in the province of Alessandria in a picturesque village in the hills between Monferrato and the Langhe. The castle later assumed its name,
still entitled to it, of Royal Castle as acquired by Her Majesty Queen Christina of
Bourbon, still retains its original defensive walls, making it architecturally unique. The property consists of the castle and the former stables, immersed in a wonderful park with walkways and water features, alternating green and shady areas with a two-hundred-year-old plane tree and century-old plants. The castle is mentioned in official documents from 1367, when the town came into the possession of Galeazzo Visconti: however, it is certain that there was already some kind of fortress on the site to defend the town. The Visconti invested various families in the management of the village, the last of which remained in charge for over five centuries. In 1908, the castle was declared a national monument of artistic and historical merit by the Ministry of Education.
The fully renovated property consists of:
- Main body of the Castle: developed on 4 floors for a total of 1,700 square metres. The main floor preserves rooms of historic charm, such as the reception hall, with its coffered ceiling, the rooms connected to it, embellished with frescoes from the early 19th century, and the loggia leading to the castle chapel, now deconsecrated. The first floor houses seven rooms with en-suite bathrooms; the second floor two master suites with en-suite bathrooms, all generously sized.
- Guest quarters: an appurtenance separate from the main body of the castle, once used as stables, today developed on two floors totalling 580 square metres
- Park: composed of several centuries-old trees, entirely surrounding the Castle for a total of 7,000 square metres.
