The historic fort was built as a defensive structure at the end of the 19th century, and its architectural features are therefore typically military. The embankment on which the structure stands is surrounded by a 2900-metre wall, finished with sandstone revetments. Two caponiere (guard posts whose walls are carved with numerous embrasures) are inserted in the wall as diametrically opposed advanced bodies; the entrance door (original) is made of iron and gives access to the courtyard onto which all the rooms on the ground floor face. A wide flight of steps leads to the mezzanine floor.
At the end of the restoration, the fort housed a restaurant business; the premises and furnishings are therefore functional for this activity.
The interior is composed as follows: On the ground floor, measuring approximately 250 square metres, are the kitchen, dining rooms, services and technical rooms. The rooms on the ground floor are arranged in a horseshoe shape. The kitchen is located in the centre of the dining rooms, which are divided
thus into two distinct zones, one dedicated to the larger crowd and the other to the smaller tables.
Access to the mezzanine floor of about 80 square metres is via a staircase that can also be accessed by service vehicles.
Completing the property are the two forecourts in front of the two floors, of which the one on the ground floor is 194 square metres and the one on the mezzanine floor is 700 square metres, respectively, and a plot of 2 hectares predominantly woodland.
The finishes such as stone, terracotta tiles from Impruneta, sandstone, chestnut beams and wrought iron have been maintained even after the restoration work, to leave the style and history of the fortress intact.

La Spezia is a port city on the eastern Ligurian Riviera, which owes its development to the navy arsenal, built in 1860. Located in the gulf of the same name, also known as the Poets' Gulf, the city is characterised by a large historic centre with typical Ligurian streets planted with bergamots, full of shops, bars, restaurants, houses of classical architecture, Art Nouveau villas and 20th-century style gardens. The historical centre overlooks the promenade that divides the city from the sea, which merges on the horizon with the Apuan Alps framing the city. Very close to the Cinque Terre and Portovenere with the neighbouring islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, La Spezia offers the possibility of visiting its monuments, within walking distance of the tourist areas.
